Audition/Monologue Workshop with Derek Stearns

This 6 week  workshop teaches the tools needed for strong auditioning. Through cold readings and work on monologues the actors will learn how to adapt in any audition setting, as well as learn how to create a monogue from a scene. 

All material will be provided. 



Derek Stearns, a member of AEA, AFTRA, SAG, has studied at the Trinity Rep Conservatory, where he earned his Equity membership, as well as with Karen Shepard, and Michael Shurtleff. Over his prestigious career he has taught acting both locally and nationally. Derek has also worked in various capacities with Trinity Repertory Company, Lyric Stage, New Repertory Theatre, Penobscot Theatre, Speakeasy, Stetson Underground, The Company Theatre and Curtain Call Theatre. In addition to hosting television shows like Victory Garden (PBS), Rock Solid and Indoors Out (DIY Network/HGTV) - all totaling over 200 episodes – Derek has also been seen in television commercials for Citizens Bank, McDonalds, Megabucks, Filene’s Basement and Dunkin Donuts.

2017 Theater in the Middle


A full day summer camp program is offered from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.  The program will include scene work, character development, voice work, improvisation games and show music. These skills will be applied to a full production of The Big Bad Musical to be presented to the public on the evening of July 20, 2017.


Camp will begin on Monday, June 26 and continue for four weeks until July 21, 2017.  No camp on July 3rd or 4th.  Participants should plan to enroll for the full four week session.  However, shorter enrollment periods are possible.

Theater in the Middle Faculty


MICHAEL BRADLEY is a graduate of Bridgewater State University class of 2015 with his degree in Theatre Arts. He has been involved with Theater in the Middle since 2009 teaching theatre, improv, and voice production. Michael is also an Elementary School Music Teacher and actor. He was an Irene Ryan Award nominee for his work at Bridgewater State along with his nomination for the Musical Theatre Initiative and advancing to the final round at the American College Theatre.

COLIN SULLIVAN studied voice and acting at both the University of Southern California and Bridgewater State University where he graduated with a B.A. in Theatre Education. He is a classically trained singer and has been involved with independent vocal and acting study and operatic roles for over 12 years. Colin has studied and performed in Viterbo, Italy as part of the Tuschia Opera Festival and has participated in various master classes, including Acting for the Singer with renowned actor Michael York. He is currently the music director and private voice and piano instructor at the Bay Colony Performing Arts Academy in Foxboro and Norwood, as well as music directing several musicals across Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. When he is not directing or teaching, he continues to perform, most recently appearing in Company as “Bobby” and in Bye Bye Birdie as “Albert Peterson.” Colin has been with Theater in the Middle since 2015, and is excited once again to be a part of this wonderful program.

PETER KATES has directed and designed for Norwell Junior High School, Marshfield High School and several community theatre groups including Curtain Call Theatre; he has been a part of Theater in the Middle for the past three years, after serving thirteen summers as technical director and Shakespeare instructor at the Derby Academy Summer Arts Program.

MEG YOUNG is a long time Curtain Call Member. Meg is currently serving as president of CCT. She has been teaching and organizing Theater in the Middle since she first started it in 2000.  In addition, she frequently serves as production manager for some of CCT's productions.  She has also been involved in costume design, acting, singing, choreography, play reading committee and props.
